Les Muffatti dedicates all its energy and expertise to an ambitious artistic project: the development of a contemporary interpretation and performance practice of its chosen repertoire, to approximate as far as possible the original intentions of the composers using means available at their time. The ensemble uses all the historical and musicological documentation and information brought to light so far.

An effort to constantly rediscover and revalorize often forgotten compositions of the past feeds its concert program choices. Sustained and detailed historical research elucidates the refined play of reciprocal influences between the great European musical schools and the styles of the past. Experiments with instrument building, and more importantly with bow making, will literally have their resonance in the near future in our perception and representation of the »early« sound image, and in its articulation and phrasing. The recording of the compositions eventually crowns this long process and fixes a long-matured and carefully thought-out version, which we consider worthy to remember as an honest, if never a definitive attempt to approximate the music in the purity of its original conception.
